Opponents of Alto Maipo hydro plant cite environmental infractions
November 3rd, 2014Green group the Maipo River Citizens' Organization (CCRM) has denounced environmental violations it claims were committed in the 531-MW Alto Maipo hydropower project that is expected to be developed in Chile.
CCRM's lawyer presented the allegations at Environment Supervision to request the opening of a sanctions procedure based on non-compliance with the Environmental Qualification Resolution, Valor Futuro reported.
CCRM claimed that two contracting companies settled workers' camps without permission.
The green group has recently opposed other power projects in Chile, such as a joint venture planned by AES Gener and Amsa.
